Blackjack is a classic table game that everybody loves!
|Game Type:||Table game|
Blackjack is widely considered one of the most popular table games of today. It is the type of game that in its simplest forms, is easy to understand and does not take a lot of practise to gain its most basic principles. However, for many, the game takes on a much deeper role as they delve into the more intricate details in so far as mastering strategy that allows for improved results.
Looking at the game you will find that, when playing online, that one deck will be in use per hand. Prior to that hand being dealt the cards will be shuffled. Standard rules apply to online as they do to other variants with the dealer standing on 17, players can choose to split hands, surrender cards, hit, stand and double down. Any player with a hand not exceeding 21 that is higher than that of the dealers hand will win. Blackjack is paid 3-2 and all other wining hands are paid equal to that wagered. The values for the cards see all face cards holding a value equal to 10, aces being the exception and giving the option of being valued at 1 or 11. All other cards are face valued, meaning a 5 of hearts is valued at 5 and so on.
How to Play
To begin a hand of blackjack, players will place wagers based on the table limits in play. This can range from as low as $1.00 up to several thousand per hand. If playing multi-hand blackjack then wagers can be placed on up to 5 hands. Bear in mind that when on a multi-hand table that additional decks of cards per hand will be in use. Generally 6 decks will be used in this case.
As mentioned, there are a number of “actions” that can be taken after the initial cards have been dealt. Below is a basic explanation of each:
This is chosen when wishing to be dealt another card. An unlimited number of hits can be used so long as your total value of cards do not exceed 21.
This option is used when no additional cards are desired. This is commonly chosen when hitting blackjack or a total sum that is close to 21.
After the first two cards are dealt, the player has the option to double their bet. One additional card will be given to complete the hand in play.
Upon the dealing of the initial cards, players can elect to split the cards and create two hands from the one, with each hand then being played separately. This is generally carried out when dealt two high cards and will require an equal wager to that originally placed at the beginning of the hand.
Players can surrender any hand and will have 50% of their bet returned to them.
When the dealer shows an Ace, he/she will offer insurance against the dealer having blackjack. This will require a wager equal to 50% of the original wager placed. Should the dealer have blackjack, and the insurance was purchased, then the player will be paid 2-1. In the event that the dealer does not hit blackjack, then the insurance bet is forfeited and the hand is played normally.
There are several types of blackjack you can play online. One of those is the standard version with all payouts being those typical of the game. The other is progressive blackjack and it includes standard payouts but adds a progressive jackpot.
The jackpot will be won in a number of different ways and depend on the software that is being used. Generally you will need to get four aces in order to win the progressive jackpot. The size of the pot grows with each side bet that is wagered as a portion of that side bet will go to the house and another to the growth of the jackpot. Depending when last won, this can become quite a healthy amount to win and therefore, when considering the average side bet is usually only $1.00, it is a worthwhile investment.
